"WHAT LASTS, IS CARED FOR"
Many times we believe that our jewelry will always be just as it was when we bought it, and we forget that our jewelry is made of natural materials from the earth and that by its very nature, it will experience slight changes over time and due to other factors.
Have you heard the phrase: "My jewelry turned black?" "My jewelry doesn't shine like it did when I bought it?" This is due to the oxidation of fine metals, which, compared to commercial or common metals, can return to their original state and shine as if nothing happened. To achieve this, you just need to follow these tips I'm sharing with you so you can keep your jewelry always shiny like the first day.
The 7 infallible tips to care for your jewelry:
1. Regular cleaning.
Clean your .950 silver and 14k gold jewelry with a mild soap, such as dish soap, a little baking soda, warm water, and a soft, fine-bristled brush.
This cleaning doesn't have to be daily, but it would help a lot to do it monthly, or you can clean your jewelry with a flannel after each use. This will help keep your jewelry always shiny.
Tip: You can schedule a maintenance session with our "Dinur Care" service, where our expert goldsmiths can clean your pieces more thoroughly and make them look new.
2. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and sudden atmospheric changes.
We all want to look good all the time, but we should avoid wearing our jewelry to places where we know it will be hot or we will be very exposed to the sun. Heat and sun will accelerate the darkening process of metals and can discolor some precious stones like amethyst, citrine, and pearls.
3. Find the perfect storage.
Remember to store your jewelry pieces separately to prevent them from hitting each other. You can store them in their packaging with gel sachets to avoid humidity, tangling your necklace chains, and preventing scratches.
Another tip we give you is to store your jewelry in airtight bags to prevent oxidation and place them inside their packaging or your favorite jewelry box.
4. Practice conscious use.
Sweat, harsh chemicals, perfumes, creams, body lotions, acids, chlorine, among other elements, are the mortal arch-enemies of jewelry.
We recommend avoiding wearing your jewelry during physical activities, swimming, or household chores to prevent damage or loss. This will also help prevent chemical reactions, protect your precious stones, and reduce the likelihood of scratches, tangles, and impacts. Remember that thin necklaces and rings are especially at risk of breaking or being damaged. Softer stones, such as emeralds, can easily chip or scratch.
5. Check clasps and settings regularly.
Periodically inspect your jewelry to ensure that chain clasps are secure, stone settings are strong and stable, and earring posts are intact. This will help prevent them from getting lost or breaking.
6. Avoid harsh chemicals.
By harsh chemicals, we mean chlorine, acids, even perfumes, lotions, and body creams.
If you're going to wear perfume, first apply the perfume or creams and lotions, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then put on your jewelry to prevent the perfume from affecting the piece. Never apply perfume with your jewelry on. Similarly, remember to remove your jewelry when swimming or exercising, as sweat and chemicals in pools and hot tubs can react with the metals and alloys of your jewelry.
7. Schedule annual maintenance with experts.
At Dinur, we offer the DINUR CARE service, where we can provide your piece with the expert care it needs to make it look new, from cleaning to polishing. We will take care of this at a cost-effective price so you can show off your jewelry with maximum sparkle.
This service is only offered to Dinur clients, and you can request it by scheduling a consultation with us, where we will guide you through the process from the reception of your pieces at our workshop to their shipment.
EXTRA TIP | Recycle your old, broken, or unused jewelry.
It's always a good idea to check all your gold or silver jewelry pieces and select those that are damaged, broken, or that you no longer use. These can be repaired or melted down to create a new design. Schedule an appointment with our team to repair, recycle, or redesign your existing jewelry. This is more sustainable than buying a new piece!
With these tips we've shared, we assure you that your jewelry will always be beautiful, shiny, and ready to wear. And if your jewelry is a little dirty or tarnished, you already know how to fix it...
With love
